Consistent high demand relative to supply is a key feature in Chatswood driving regular price increases. Recent rapid price increases however may constrain future growth by limiting demand. In this area of average incomes, there is a mix of housing size and quality. While this may present buying opportunities, growth may be constrained. As buyers begin to examine Chatswood due to other areas being out of the price range and the trend to working from home, "gentrification" may incease price growth. The high percentage of professional people in Chatswood classifies the area as "gentrified". This implies high demand for quality housing, generally of larger than average size. Price growth is ensured even where the state affordability index is negatively impacting other areas. High density population in Chatswood requires consistent turnover in housing ensuring constant demand. Housing styles may be a mix of low, medium, and high density, providing choice for well-financed buyers and value growth over time. High industry presence in the wider area is a double-edged sword. While local employment options are high, the presence of industrial buildings may negatively impact lifestyle perception. Demand from first home buyers and investors however ensures good price growth.
Chatswood is a suburb within the Lower North Shore region of Sydney, New South Wales. Serving as the administrative centre of its local government area, the City of Willoughby, Chatswood is a major centre for business and commerce, as well as featuring a number of residential districts. First European settlement began in the 1870s; growth of the region was accelerated by the installation of the North Shore railway line in the 1890s and the opening of a post office in 1879. Initially home to a number of orchards and dairy farms, the expansion of Sydney developed the municipality in a more urban direction, with Chatswood being officially declared a city in 1989. With a number of historical parks and gardens, Chatswood maintains a beautiful verdant appearance despite acting as a hub for business within the region.
Chatswood is situated just 10 kilometres north of the Central Business District of Sydney. Chatswood Railway Station provides a direct rail connection to the centre of Sydney to the south, and further out to greater Sydney to the north; the suburb is also a major bus interchange, and several major roads and highways run through its heart, making it an incredibly well-connected and conveniently located place to own property. Chatswood is packed with culture and promise, and is an excellent balance between the more rural, calmer lifestyle of the suburbs and the bustle and activity of the heart of Sydney.
