If you can crunch the numbers to come up with $11 million and want to get your teeth into a slice of history, this delicious Sydney home built for one of the famous Arnott’s Biscuits family is for sale.

Dr Halse Arnott was the youngest son of William Arnott, the founder of Arnott’s Biscuits, and his second wife Margaret Fleming. 70 Burns Road Wahroonga home was built in the 1930s for their family but they’d first lived in Bulwarra, an 1870s stone mansion in Hunters Hill (also once owned by Cate Blanchett and Andrew Upton).

After studying medicine and chemistry, Halse was involved in the management of Arnott’s and served as chairman from 1947 until 1961. Some of Arnott’s best known brands are Monte Carlos, SAOs, Tim Tams, and Iced VoVos. Although still made in Australia, the biscuits’ brand is now a subsidiary of American investment company KKR.

Grand Georgian estate

The Wahroonga home at 70 Burns Road is described by real estate listing agent Di Jones as a grand Georgian estate. It’s set on three lots totalling 5465 sqm of ‘magnificent park-like level grounds.’

Designed by architect William Richardson, the elegant 5-bedroom double brick home has a stately entrance hallway, grand banquet-sized dining room and formal lounge, and private guest quarters.
